Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson two lawyers. Her family was moved to Oxfordshire in the year she turned five which is where she went to an academy called the Dragon School. Emma made the decision to become an actor by the age of six. For several years she was a student at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing along with dancing, as well as acting. At the age of 10, Emma had taken part in a variety of Stagecoach productions and school productions. When 1999 began, casting was announced to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting agents stumbled upon Emma from her Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, as well as Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been picked for the role. The cast included Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first appearance in a film was alongside Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It also was the most successful film in 2001. The opening weekend and day ticket sales were record breaking. The film received praise from people who have read it, along with the performances of its three young actors. The popular British publication The Daily Telegraph called her performance "awesome. Afterward, Emma was nominated for five awards for her performance in the film and was awarded The Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in a Feature Film.
